The Absurd Face of Occupation

If one needs more proof of the absurdities of occupation, watch the following video, filmed in Hebron last weekend.

A Jewish settler climbs to the rooftop of a Palestinian house to remove a Palestinian flag, cheered on by fellow settlers, only to be caught in the barbed wire. A Palestinian, maybe the owner of the house, approaches him and asks why he’s trespassing. The answer he gets is that the house doesn’t really belong to the Palestinian as everything is “The Land of Israel”. To add to the absurdity of the situation, the Palestinian speaks much better Hebrew than the settler, a new immigrant from Russia.

And when a soldier turns up, do you think he tells the trespasser off? No. He shouts at the Palestinian to go back to his his house. “This is my house”, answers the Palestinian.

It it weren’t so sad it would be funny.

  1. Thank you for posting this. I live in the U.S. and it is extremely difficult here for a Jewish person to state that the occupation is awful. Most Jews just try to justify it. It is nice to see that there are Israelis who believe in human rights for Palestinians as well.
