When we hear about a stabbing in the news, the causes typically fall into one of the usual categories: political or nationalistic hatred (Arab stabs Jew), criminal behaviour (“arse” stabs another “arse”), domestic violence (husband stabs wife) or other forms of common violence (driver struck by road rage).
A stabbing is of course never happy news. Especially if the victim dies. But upon reading this piece of news from Russia, I couldn’t help but smile. Who would have imagined a literary argument would end in a stabbing?
I too am not a great fan of poetry, but from now on I will think twice before stating that prose is the only form of literature, lest I am overheard by an overzealous poetry lover.
