Hebrew Book Week 2013

It’s that time of year again, “Hebrew Book Week” in Israel.

Despite the ugly commercialisation of book selling in this country (“three for 99”, “buy 1 get 2 free”), this time of year is always a reason for celebration. It warms the heart to see so many people, especially children and youngsters, browsing the stacks of books at stores and outdoor fairs.

In honour of this annual event, two videos.

The first is a short commercial by a leading publishing house in Israel. The captions at the end read: “Every time you watch a reality show, a book commits suicide. If you wish to peek into other people’s lives, open a book”.

The second is from Penguin Books: “25 Reasons to Read Books”.

Happy reading!
